FASHION IS BEING YOU!!!
Like a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes - “Phoenix rising from the ashes.” This phrase popped into my head recently, and I wasn’t sure why until I spoke to my dear close friend and confidant - Monique Lola Berkley-Actress/Producer. As the story goes, the phoenix is a mythical bird with fiery plumage that lives up to 100 years. Near the end of its life, it settles in to its nest of twigs which then burns ferociously, reducing bird and nest to ashes. And from those ashes, a fledgling phoenix rises – renewed and reborn.”
Monique Lola Berkley is that “Phoenix”. A light on a hill that can not be hidden. Constantly on the rise; continuously reinventing herself through each character she commits to portray and each project she produces. She is a promise that must be kept!
Everyone has taken their seats anxiously awaiting the Phoenix on the rise. The lights are turned down-darkness takes center stage but not for long. As Monique makes her dramatic entrance onto the stage she commands that darkness gives way (to her) as if she was Moses parting the red sea. I couldn’t help but to notice that Monique disappeared into a realm that only she knows how to reach-replaced by the character(s) she portrayed taking her audience with her, with promise of safe return. I could no longer find Monique but became friends with the various characters that she introduced me to throughout her lustrous career as an actress.
Strikingly beautiful, almond shaped eyes the color of black marbles, cheekbones supported by a welcoming smile finished off with caramel porcelain skin (a fashion photographers dream come true). Although Ms. Berkley is pleasing on the eyes. She makes it very clear (soft giggles) “I am just an ordinary girl proud of being an African American”. This exotic beauty has taken the world of theatre by storm causing a stirring of intrigue.
“B” Styled By Da’rrell was granted this rare interview with the Phoenix herself. I introduce to you Monique Lola Berkley.
Acting was in her genetic make up. Some might even say that she was born to do this. As cliché as it sounds-its true!!! Monique Lola Berkley was born to be an Actress. As a child she knew that being an actress was her calling. Crying for some may come naturally, but for Monique Lola Berkley producing real emotion is an acquired skill. With several stage plays under her belt along with being a producer; Monique continues to study scripts as if she was a chef studying seasonings. Monique received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre Arts through Marymount Manhattan College. She honed her skills at the distinguished Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute becoming the sought after actress she is today.
Ms. Berkley has built her outstanding reputation as a starlet with her strong belief in having Faith in God, her personal achievements and an unwavering commitment to excellence. A strong advocate for children, she challenges our young generation to be bold in their choices, original in their ideas and passionate in their pursuit of creative individuality.
When asked about fashion and her personal style; she answered in a relaxed voice with strong conviction behind every word; causing even me to stand up straight and to be strong in pursuit of “my dreams” - “your style will come through when you are true to yourself. When you are rooted and grounded your style will reflect who you really are-be true to yourself-seek God and He will guide you” Let the church say Amen!!!!
Monique you are a Spark that turns accomplishments into inspiration!
“B” Styled By Da’rrell is honored and thanks you for taking time out of your busy schedule to award me this interview. I wish you continued success in all of your endeavors. Continue to rise my “Phoenix“…..continue to rise……..
